Silvester Blues
Silvester Blues | Erinnerungen an schöne Zeiten

“Let it be, let it be. There will come an answer, let it be.” The Beatles
Eight hours layover between flights at BKK, recovering from a sea kayak accident and barely being able to walk I asked myself what to do with the time? Sitting idle at the airport wasn’t really a choice and while dragging my suitcase around the lively airport, I stumbled accross a sign pointing to the Airport Rail Link that ends in downtown Bangkok. Sitting in a train means not having to walk and so I bought a one-way ticket. At the downtown terminal I found myself looking at a rather large intersection. Hmm…

Yellow and Blue | Day seven
While digging through my picture archives, I became aware of having many pictures that have one thing in common: matching color schemes. It really is interesting how some color combinations can be found whichever country you go to. This week I’m going to feature a selection of pictures containing the bright colors Yellow & Blue.

On our way from Oslo to Rakkestad, we drove through a quaint little town named Tomter. This town featured a rather classy Bentley Corniche Coupé at one end… and a vehicle called sad solution in German on the other. Sad solution? Yes, the Volkswagen Type 3 1600 TL was nicknamed Traurige Lösung. It’s easy to see why, as it wanted to play in a higher class than the mighty Beetle, but somehow just looked like a big one with the proportions way off and not to it’s advantage. Mean people even say, that it looks like a Dackel taking a crap. Oh well, this might not have been what the ‘designers’ intended.

My friend Gerd and his wife Claudia started the drop-top season rather late this year. After collecting the Volkswagen Beetle convertible from storage and giving it a good wash, we decided to quickly snap a few pictures before officially starting the season.

Late Sunday afternoon. We are driving home from a pleasant weekend we spent near Oostende. Passing a couple of vintage air-cooled Volkswagen on the ring road around Brussels brightens up the slow and rather dull traffic. For some reason they always make you smile 🙂
I missed most of them, due to the camera bag being hidden under some stuff on the back seat. However, I did manage to take a few snapshots before the sun set. Please excuse the bad quality of the images. The ride on most new cars is not suitable for taking pictures in low light conditions.

Putting up a tent in the paddock at the Nürburgring at a VLN racing weekend isn’t really an option. Instead, you might want to have something more solid. Rain is a common weather occurrence at the ‘ring, after all. And while driving in the Eifel mountains isn’t really much fun in an asthmatic vehicle, you might as well bolt a few extra ponies into the engine bay – just as this gentlemen did. Having fun on the way to the track, enjoy the weekend there and have fun on the run home. That’s not only double the fun, but triple. Volkswagen T3 + Porsche 911 engine + proper brakes and suspension = 🙂

We visited the Isle of Mull on a rather wet day in October 2013. Because most cats don’t enjoy rain, we unfortunately didn’t see the famous Tobermory Cat while visiting the beautiful town. However, we did find the not yet famous Tobermory Caddy.

Early October 2013, on our way from Glasgow to Kilchrenan. We stopped briefly at Loch Lomond to take a quick look around.
The day was cold and grey, but the Volkswagen T3 Camper we found in the parking lot was beautifully painted with bright colors.

The title says it all. This post is about emotions. The Volkswagen T2b pictured here sparks many of them, quite literally. These vehicles are just so positively sympathetic, you couldn’t force the smile off your face – even if you wanted to. Not smiling isn’t an option due to friendly feelings, friendly people and friendly encounters. Slowly (as they are) but surely, the classic VW campers creep into your heart. You just want to pet them, as the sign in the opening pictures suggests 🙂

While hunting for a project car, I found this excellently crafted Volkswagen Beetle Pickup. The vehicle belongs to the Hagenauer body & paint shop in Würzburg. The split rear windows are a nice touch, but the rear bumper and lights leave something to be desired. They could have created something that suits the overall appearance of the Beetle Pick-up better. But that’s complaining at a high level 😉

This was one of those ‘by chance’ finds. While trying to find a good vantage point to take a few pictures of Biarritz, I turned into one of those dead-end alleys you often find near the beach. Out of curiosity I followed the tiny road around a bend – and found this Fuchs equipped Volkswagen T2 hiding there. Quite clever actually: park where it’s free of charge, grab your surfboard and head for one of the famous surfing spots. I really like the sticker on the windscreen, because it somehow fits the overall theme of the van.

The perfect travel companion? Should be able to go anywhere while carrying all the things you might need there. Oh… and providing ample sleeping space and a fridge to keep the drinks cool wouldn’t hurt either. This immaculate Volkswagen T3 Syncro Westfalia camper ticks all the right boxes and comes quite close to being the perfect travel companion, doesn’t it?
